Church is boring! Church is not relevant! Church is not convenient! Church is not meeting my needs! Church is not where I’m at! Church needs to be more …….. (please fill in the gap)Maybe you have heard these said or even said them yourself.

However, think about this for a moment. When God wanted to show the heavenly beings His incomparable wisdom. How did He do this? He created the Church!

Just think! Though I did nothing to deserve it, and though I am the most useless Christian there is, yet I was the one chosen for this special joy of telling the Gentiles the Glad News of the endless treasures available to them in Christ; and to explain to everyone that God is the Saviour of the Gentiles too, just as he who made all things had secretly planned from the very beginning.

And his reason? To show to all the rulers in heaven how perfectly wise he is when all of his family—Jews and Gentiles alike—are seen to be joined together in his Church in just the way he had always planned it through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now we can come fearlessly right into God’s presence, assured of his glad welcome when we come with Christ and trust in him. Eph 3:8-12

We have a sacred responsibility to live as the Church so that the rulers in the heavens marvel at God’s wisdom. They look and see our oneness and love for each other and are blown away by God’s brilliant plan.

In earlier verses, Paul, explains that the great mystery God is revealing is the Gentiles now joining together in the same body as the Jews because of what Jesus did on the cross. This had been hidden and now the curtain has been drawn back and revealed to the heavenly authorities God’s master plan. The Church. No way! This is unreal! Jesus’s death and resurrection means that people of every nation and tongue become members of one body. Amazing! God Himself is joining His Creation and allowing them to be part of His body. Unbelievable. This was plan A all along.

There is going to be a day when God will Himself dwell with people of all races and they will be brought t complete unity, making one temple, which will be a dwelling place for God!

Do you see why church matters so much! Many today treat the Church as optional, as an outdated way to connect to God which has outlived its usefulness. They would rather connect with God on their own, in their own way, without all the other weirdos making is difficult.Maybe that is how you feel?

However, when we see Church from God’s perspective, when we see God’s design plans we are left in wonder. Only God could come up with such a beautiful and creative plan.

Heavenly beings are shocked by God’s Church, while many of us on earth yawn, disengage or simply give it a miss this week. We shouldn’t need energetic music, great videos, attractive talks and lighting to be excited about being part of God’s body. The early church had none of this yet the pure gospel was enough to put them in a place of awe.

Is it a little awkward that you may have complained about the worship songs, talk length, fabric on the chair, room temperature or that other person at church rather than be caught up in the awe. It’s not all your fault. Maybe we have all lost sight of the powerful mystery inherent in the Church and have instead tried other methods to keep people interested and coming back.

This is what we are going to be consider together in the next three series in church starting this Sunday when we ask What Does God Ask of Me? After Easter we will be launching a series called Dear Church based on Revelations and our new Real Talk series is called Myth Busters (Church).

God has plans for His Sarced Church and you are included in those plans. You are chosen to be part of God’s eternal plan for the Church and you have a vital part to play. Discover more over the coming weeks.
